Razzo

We visited this Pendleton pizzeria this last week, pairing it with some art via @otrfinalfriday & @pendletonartcentercincinnati. Razzo (Italian for “rocket”) bills itself as a Roman style pizzeria. I’m a big fan of Roman style, which is experiencing a boom recently, and I was able to sample/review some leading purveyors in recent trips to NYC. Roman style square slices are generally lighter than their Sicilian, Detroit, and various other American square cugini. Traditionally, these pizzas are made in a giant sheet and then slices are cut (taglio) out for you. Think of something you eat with one hand while Vespa-ing around the Coliseum all day. However, being a sit down restaurant, Razzo serves theirs in whole 10x14 pies. We opted for the classic Margherita. The crust was light, almost like an airy focaccia, but with a crisp well-done bottom. It was a nice contrast in textures and overall a tasty crust (I am curious if the relatively heavy pans were responsible for the crispiness). Toppings-wise, there was fresh mozzarella (see our failed cheese-pull), large basil leaves, and generous well-peppered tomato sauce. Also, the house-made ranch dipping sauce was seriously on point. Overall, it was a well-crafted pie & @pizza.razzo marks a quality addition to the local pizza scene. They mentioned that they’re now launching an Italian-style Sunday brunch; I’ll keep my eye on their upcoming bakery creations.
