ZZ's Pizza
Cincinnati · New York Style · Apr 2010

ZZ’s has recently reopened in its distinctive angular corner building on Gilbert in Walnut Hills. The restaurant has plenty of character, and the menu offers a strong selection of artisan pizzas with more ambitious toppings than the typical neighborhood pizzeria.
The homemade crust is thick, soft, and nicely browned around the edges, though the center is a little too soggy beneath the generous toppings. A soggy center can be common in Neapolitan pies, but in my humble opinion it could use a bit firmer bake and more crispness underneath. Still, everything above the crust works well. The cheese is flavorful, the vegetables taste fresh, and the pizzas are put together with obvious care.
ZZ's is a real gem for the Cincy pizza scene. It is a distinctive neighborhood pizzeria with good ingredients, thoughtful combinations, and more personality than most.
