Your Mom’s Pizzeria

The Cincy pizza scene has been booming in recent years, such that I think the top places match up well with the best nationally. One style that’s a challenge though is your classic New York by-the-slice: pre-baking a pizza just the right amount so that each slice gets to the right bake when heated up for a customer is a little like eating soup with a knife. If you follow Cincy pizza on FB groups like Chowdown Cincinnati, you regularly hear things like “Finally authentic New York style in Cincinnati at NYPD Pizza” or “I used to live in Bed-Stuy and Goodfellas is the first time I found a real NY-sized slice here”. But now I will actually use that line: I thought Your Mom’s slices stack up well against some of the classic slice joints in New York. I’d definitely take them over the better named @joespizzanyc for instance, and they remind me of @scarrspizza - one of my favorites.

I have three criteria in judging New York style. A quality slice should have a crust that: 1. Is thin, with a crispy exterior and soft/chewy interior 2. Has a nice flavor so that it tastes good on its own 3. Holds up the toppings w/o getting soggy

Your Mom’s met all these criteria. It had a very thin crispy crust, baked to the right level, with a nice flavor. It also featured some nicely formed #RoniCups. Really an excellent slice. We also ordered a Sicilian slice (a true NY slice shop should have both), which we also quite enjoyed - perhaps I’ll do a full slice review on that later. Overall, it was an excellent experience - Kudos to Your Mom’s and indeed all moms everywhere.

P.S. It’s been a busy few months, so I haven’t been posting. Your Mom’s seemed an appropriate place to return with though.

P.S.S.S. An obligatory AI Your Mom joke: “Your mom’s pizza is like her hugs: warm, comforting, and always makes everything better.”
