Sofia Pizza Shoppe

Napoli, Palermo, New Haven, Chicago, Detroit, and even Old Forge are great places for pizza. But there can be no question that New York stands above them all as pizza’s second city (after Cincinnati). As such, we have proclaimed this #NewYorkPizzaMonth here at the Joey Pepp Corporation & I will be reviewing some of my favorite NY slices all October.

Sofia is in Sutton Place on 1st Avenue - not traditionally a neighborhood known for its pizza. While a relatively new addition to the scene, Sofia’s pizza is classic New York style. A tad on the dense side (fewer air bubbles), the crust was crisp on the outside with some mild char and a chewy flavorful inside. The sauce had a strong flavor and was more on the acidic side. And, mercifully, the pepperoni was gently cupped. Overall, I think this is pretty much what you want from a slice joint. I’d like to revisit the next time I’m in the neighborhood & perhaps even try their copyrighted designer Sicilian pizza: the #DoughDici
